Why is listening to children and taking their wishes, dreams, feelings and thoughts seriously a crucial part of transformative politics?
‘What are we going to do with a world that places targets on children’s backs before they can even understand they are in danger?’
— A question from Experiments in Imagining Otherwise
‘I love my mother, but she couldn’t protect me. I love you but you couldn’t either. I’m a lot better now, you see?’
— A line from Sambac Beneath Unlikely Skies
‘Now the child announces they will tell a story, and it is exactly the same story the parent has told, again and again, repeated each day with fresh joy, and it is heard with loving patience.’
— From the endnote of Pearls from Their Mouth
Join Hajar Press and our community for a participatory conversation on the theme of childhood.
We’ll be sharing short excerpts from our books and links to online conversations with attendees ahead of the event, to help frame our discussion. We’d also love for attendees to bring along a short piece of writing that they wrote when they were a child, or that reminds them of their childhood, to share with the group (if they feel comfortable doing so)!
This is the second conversation in a two-part short series created by Hajar Press.
