Heba Hayek: Voices of Palestinian Women Authors

Join Heba Hayek, author of Sambac Beneath Unlikely Skies, for the next session of ‘Voices of Palestinian Women Authors’, a dynamic online series for engaging with literature, culture and history through reading and discussion.

Organised by the ADHUC-Research Centre of Theory, Gender and Sexuality at the University of Barcelona and the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, with the support of the UNESCO Chair Women, Development and Cultures, this project is a series of semi-academic reading sessions directed at people interested in literature and Palestine, open to university attendees and the general public.

This series aims to provide a prominent platform to showcase and explore a curated selection of works, primarily literary, by Palestinian women authors. Throughout each session, we will delve into various aspects of Palestinian culture, history and contemporary reality, utilising literature and the arts as key vehicles to understand the diverse voices and perspectives of Palestinian women.

Each 1.5-hour session will consist of an interactive conversation where participants will have the opportunity to discuss and analyse the selected book. Sessions will take place online at 16:00–17:30 Barcelona / 10:00–11:30 ECT / 17:00–18:30 Jerusalem / 15:00–16:30 London.

Heba Hayek is a London-based, Gaza-raised Palestinian author, creative and facilitator. She completed an MFA in Creative Writing at Miami University, Ohio, and studied for an MA in Social Anthropology at SOAS University of London. Sambac Beneath Unlikely Skies won the Creative Award in the 2022 Palestine Book Awards and was chosen as a 2021 Book of the Year by The White Review, Middle East Eye and The New Arab.
